Is Nico Ali Walsh the heir to the Great One?

If we talk about the greatest boxer of all time, many will immediately name Mohammed Ali. The Greatest did make a huge contribution to the world of boxing. But he also influenced Americans, and we can say the whole world. Of course, he was not without defeats in the ring, but it was his victories that made him memorable. And he created real dynasty, for example, his daughter Layla won 24 fights out of 24 on professional ring. And now on the scene is Ali’s grandson, Niko, who is building a career in the middleweight division. He is now 22 years old.

Of course, Walsh is taking advantage of his grandfather’s big name, and for his first fight he wore the shorts he inherited from The Greatest.  But in fact, it is thanks to his relative that the grandson now enjoys a certain amount of popularity. But in fact he has not yet done anything himself. Not long ago he had his 7th fight in boxing, where he won again. His opponent is Bill Wagner, who is 5-2 and 29 years old.

The fight was sharp almost from the start when Nico, after scouting, started attacking and penetrating defences. But he fiddled the second round, which is why he lost it. But his opponent was not successful and in the middle of the sixth round Wagner again lost the initiative. Already at the end of the fight there was a very decent exchange, Walsh was better. And in the end he was the one to win by a judge’s decision.

 The performance of Mohammed’s grandson was frankly weak, and there were clear difficulties with the middleweight. But Nick also played a role here, but that’s no excuse either. You can say that everyone has bad fights, but here it’s another reason to think about it. Right now Nico is still only beating sacks who have little claim to anything. Seven fights at the professional level without raising the level of the opponent. And what kind of growth are we talking about here?

The grandfather would hardly be happy with his grandson’s behaviour and performances like this. Of course, if these are his first fights he must build up his confidence, but there is no need to drag it out. Kasius himself was already in his 5th fight against a more experienced opponent, Donny Fliman, who won 22 times by knockout. And Ali emerged victorious from the fight with a technical knockout. The grandson, on the other hand, fights middles and not exactly brightly.

It’s particularly sad to realise all this, as the lad really does have potential. The technical aspects are very reminiscent of the Greatest. His punching skills are good, he has no problems with stamina or reaction. There is an urgent need to change his approach, and with each new opponent his strength and experience should be greater.
