A career in MMA is not a good decision

Ben Askren has been able to make solid money in mixed martial arts. But he makes a point not to repeat his path.

Surely many MMA fans have heard his name. He is a charismatic curly-haired American who is remembered for his wrestling. Of course, there have been champion titles during his career. But as far as the UFC is concerned, his run cannot be considered good, as he was knocked out by Masvidal in just seconds. After another defeat, he ended his career and returned for a boxing bout with Jake Paul, where he also lost.

At the moment Ben has become an expert and often gives interviews. Sometimes they are very unexpected. Not too long ago, the mixed martial arts star, whose fortune is in the millions of dollars, said that young people should not even try to get into MMA.

As Askren points out, MMA is an idiotic idea. Thousands of people across the country need to hear that there will be numerous amateur and semi-professional fights before the professional shows.  And if one is lucky enough to spot talent, and there are no injuries, then there might be a chance to get into the UFC.

And in the beginning waits basic contract, where in case of 3 wins in a year you can get 80 thousand dollars. But if you subtract the amounts to the manager and trainer, taxes, that leaves half. And that’s assuming all three fights were winnable.

Of course, Ben’s reasoning is sound, because the road to MMA is pretty tough. Not many people make it to the top, and hundreds of people just get lost in the beginning. It’s a lack of talent or numerous injuries, bad luck. All these things play a significant role. Anyway, the first years of performances will be very difficult and one can’t think about profit.

Nowadays even champions often talk about insufficient fees for fights. Of course, they are already wealthy people, but all is learned by comparison. If it’s Khabib or McGregor, then everything is clear. There is no point in trying to fight in MMA, especially as the injury rate is high and there is a lack of money.

In professional boxing the sums are completely different, but how to get there. Many fighters, even the really talented ones, have no chance.  And the risks are always very high, so you have to make a sensible choice and test yourself in a “normal job” first.
